Year 1 and 2 feel superfit after their walk down to Ashfield to take part in a range of sports activities in mixed teams with 4 other local schools. Well done to all the children for taking part so enthusiastically.

As part of our topic we designed and made our own salads. We started by taste testing various salad items to decide which ones we would like to include, and made a chart of the different texures, tastes and colours of each item. Then we designed a plan of how we would like our salad to look and gave it a name.(All Saints Salad seemed to be a popular one!!)We had allsorts of designs from dogs to dinosaurs. Finally we made up our salads and enjoyed eating them.YUM!!!

Satisfied customers!!

Year 1 and 2 members of Chevin and Danefield teams spent the day finding out and imagining what was under the ocean. They came equipped with goggles and masks, then used “magic” snorkels to be able to breathe underwater. Bubbles helped give a trail to some of the creatures, which they described in great detail.

These imaginary scenes transformed into beautifully patterned fish drawn with pastels, and a fish finder fact sheet about some of the amazing creatures living in the deep. (Some of them must be part of the 95% of the ocean yet undiscovered!) Working together with very watery paint they created a sea-coloured background.

Instruments and movement represented the sea later, before the bubbles appeared again outside.

Children also chose to build boats, submarines and other sea-going vehicles with Lego, did observational drawings of shells and made 3D shells.
A very enjoyable day.

Year One have been investigating around the school grounds to find different signs of spring .They found daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses as well as lots of new shoots and buds on the trees and bushes.

Here is our display showing the signs of spring that we found.

As well as being plant detectives,Gus’ mum brought us some packets of wildflower seeds, which the children will be bringing home at the end of our topic. We wrote letters to Nature Club asking them where they would like us to plant them. They sent us a reply suggesting where the best places would be to plant and how wonderful it would be to attract more bees and wildlife. With Mrs Raw’s help the children dug over and raked the ground before planting.

Reception,Years 1 and 2 recently enjoyed a visit to Otley Courthouse to watch a performance of ‘Who’s Been Sitting In My Chair?’ It was a fabulous morning presented to us by Simon Hatfield who brought all the characters to life with lights, music and numerous props!

Last week Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic visit to Harlow Carr Gardens in Harrogate. We spent the morning with Debbie in the classroom learning about different seeds, planting our own pots and making leaves out of clay.In the afternoon we were all set a different challenge by Mrs Armitage. They included looking for signs of spring, different patterns and colours and finding as many leaves as they could.

Lars and Kate really enjoyed looking for different shaped leaves on the “leaf hunt” Debbie set them.

George said: “I had a great day out and especially liked it when Mrs Marston found an iris plant called “George.”

Freddie,Lucy and Gus had the most fun planting carrot seeds and are looking forward to seeing them grow.Carrots for tea anyone?

Mrs Armitages group were set the challenge of finding as many flowers as they could.

Matthew and Lewis thought the best part of the day was when Mollie was turned into a seed and they had to water her!

The end of a grand day out!!!!!!

Our fantastic plant display in our classroom. A variety of flowering plants and vegetable tops!

The children are taking great care in watering the plants and keeping them healthy.

Year One go Victorian!!!!!

Here are Year One acting as Victorian children in our new Victorian classroom! How fantastic to see them sitting so smartly and sensibly. Miss Evans the teacher looks very prim and proper, I wonder what she is teaching them?

The children had a go at making their own Victorian classroom out of lego.
It looks great with all the desks in a row well done to Tigerlily, Alfie, Anya,
Hannah and Jemma!

Year 1 enjoyed a visit from Mrs Sykes this afternoon. She talked to them about her first day at school nearly 60 years ago! Ethan found out that she sat at a wooden desk to do her work. Thomas S S discovered that she didn’t use a whiteboard but wrote on a blackboard with chalk.

Here are some of the interesting facts they found out!
