Ashfield 1 – Otley All Saints 1 09.11.06

The points were shared between All Saints and Ashfield after a superb display of football at The Ashfield Ground.
Both teams were full of confidence after good wins in their previous matches, but it was Ashfield that started brightest with Goalkeeper Leeds having to soak up lots of early pressure.

It wasn’t long until All Saints found their feet however and started to pressure the excellent Ashfield Goalkeeper.  Some great  interplay between the midfield of Cook, Gardener and Atkins lead to Walton becoming free inside the Ashfield area.  He managed to keep his composure and rattled the roof of the net with a right-foot drive.
Ashfield tried hard to come straight back into the game, but the defence of Farnaby, Farrimond and Featherstone proved too hard to break down and All Saints went in 1 nil up at half time.
All Saints started well after the break with winger Atkins a constant menace to the Ashfield defence.  However, it was Ashfield who restored the game to level terms after a good piece of skill which left All Saints Keeper Leeds with no chance.
The rest of the game saw action at both ends of the field, but at full-time the score remained 1 – 1, which was a fair result.
The game was played at a high tempo throughout and both teams should be commended for the competitive but sporting manner in which they played.  Thanks also to the parents who travelled across a fairly gridlocked Otley to the match and stayed and supported the team.
All Saints will have some time to prepare for their next match as we break until early Spring.
All Saints: Leeds, Farnaby, Farrimond (c), Featherstone, Atkins, Gardener, Cook, Walton.  Subs: Proctor, Griffin, Burrows.
