As you will know, we are currently working with a partner school in Perigueux, France.  Some of the children have written letters to each other and we are now working on a project to highlight some of the artefacts that represent us and our language and culture.

We are thinking about things which represent us on local level (Otley), a regional level (Yorkshire) and a national level (UK).  We would like to send our partner school a box of items that they can explore and ask us questions about.  Our partner school are working on a smiliar box for us.

If you would like to help us with suggestions for the box, then please leave a comment below!

Things to remember:

It must be small enough to fit in a large shoe box

It must be something that won’t go bad!

The more unusual and specific to our town, region or country the better!

Bonne chance!

What does a koala bear eat? Name Rome’s main river? How many colours can the human eye see?

These are just some of the tricky questions our gallant team faced as they battled their wits against Kerr Mackie Primary during Leeds Learning Network’s video conference quiz .

The team in action ………. on the smartboard…

………and in the classroom.

Although we made an excellent start, and were neck and neck for much of the quiz, Kerr Mackie moved ahead in the final stages to win their way through to the semi final.

Well done to all!

Once again, our nostrils have been teased by the delicious scent of baking bread as Goldfinch group became master bakers for the day.

Below, you can see the wonderful loaves produced by children in Lapwing group last week.

I bet these photos are now all that remains!

As you can see from this photograph, the new activity trail is a great hit with our older children too. Here Year 5 are joining in the fun!

Many thanks to the PTA for all your fund raising efforts!

It has been a busy week for our football team after a cold Winter meant many of the games didn’t get played.  On Friday the team travelled to St.Josephs Primary School.  We were beasten convincingly by a very strong side.  The final score 5-2.  Our goals were scored by Jack and George.

This afternoon, the team travelled to Westgate Primary School.  We went down a goal midway through the first half but were back on level terms by half time after a fantastic goal from George.  Jack put us 2-1 up with a wonder strike in the second half before Westgate equalised.  This last goal seemed to give Westgate lots of confidence and they finally snatched a late winner.  Most agreed that a draw would have been a fairer result, but that’s football!

ALL agreed that the game was played in good spirit and we were treated to some very impressive football from both sides.  Well done to both teams!

The Team!

Well done to all the children who completed the Salts Mill Treasure Hunt today – I am looking forward to seeing all your answers on Monday!  It was lovely to hear you all talking about the art.  I hope you enjoyed the visit.  Here are some pictures of some of you:

It will be great to see some of you at Salts Mill tomorrow. I am looking forward to having a good look round the gallery and seeing some of David Hockney’s work first hand.

I realise that it is not possible for all families to come along tomorrow.  I will be giving children a Hockney ‘Treasure Hunt’ to complete and this is available to download by anyone who would like to attend the gallery another time.

My Book about Mog
Once upon a time Mog ran into the woods. There were vines in the forest.
Mog was walking but he wasn’t watching the vines. The vines picked Mog up.
Mog miaowed and miaowed.
The vines put Mog down and Mog ran off as fast as she could. She had a dream!

Rifka.

Over the last couple of weeks the Reception children have been reading the story “Mog and the Vee Eee Tee”
Today Lily wrote a brilliant story about Mog.

My Story about Mog.
Once upon a time there was a cat called Mog.
He went into the dark forest. He was very scared but
all of a sudden there came a shadow very fast.
He nearly got eaten by a fox but eventually Mog found
his way home.

Beebots

We stayed outside this afternoon to learn about controlling beebots – small robots which store a set of simple commands.  We found it difficult at first to ’see through the beebots’ eyes’ and make it turn in the right direction.  We soon got the hang of it though.  A few of us thought what a good idea it would be to have a crayon or pen attached to the underside of the belly so we could see where it had been.  This is what we will be moving onto soon when we start using the computer program ‘logo’.
