What an eventful day, the coffers have still to be collected and counted.

As part of Year 2 Big Writing session, Olivia, Tommy and Scarlet wrote these newspaper style report about the beastly farmers in Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox.
Farmers Attack Foxes
Three farmers last week shot off a fox’s tail! The same farmers sat at a den all night in the rain where the foxes lived. Boggis, Bunce and Bean, the farmers, dug with some mechanical diggers to try to get the foxes and their babies. Surprisingly these three men were very rude!!!
by Olivia
Every day and night the farmers tried a different plan. The farmers names were Boggis, Bunce and Bean. Their first plan was destroying the fox’s home. The next horrible plan was starving them out. I don’t want to tell you because it was the most disgusting thing ever. They even shot one fox’s tail off when the gun went BANG!
by Tommy
For the last few weeks some farmers called Boggis, Bunce and Bean have been digging up the hill! It has been banned for people going up it. They have shot off a fox’s tail! They have sent for tents and everything to sleep up there. Some people say the noise is an earthquake because the farmers would never do anything like it. Some people say it’s the farmers because they’re so mean. We think the foxes are also making a plan. Dial 0901 121 65708 to give ideas. Will you do it?

The nursery children have been sharing the story of “Handa’s Surprise” and we decided to make a fruit salad using some of the exotic friuts Handa had in her basket. The children peeled and chopped and then tasted!!! We are going to be reading about “Oliver’s Milkshake” next…….

Sponsored ‘Wacky Walk’ – Children are invited to dress in wacky clothes ‘The Wackier the Better’ on Friday, May 16th in school from 1.30 pm. Could Mums and Dads please remember to return any sponsor forms to school by Monday 12th May (to Mrs Sowden). Please note no monies to be returned with sponsor forms until after the event. Many thanks P.T.A.

In Year 4, we have been investigating forces. Today we were thinking about air resistance. We went on to the field in the sunshine and played with the parachute, talking about what we already knew about air resistance. We knew loads!
We came up with the hypothesis that the larger the surface area of the parachute, the slower it would fall due to increased air resistance. We needed to test this out, so we sent Mr Robertson up onto the school roof (being VERY careful of course) with some different sized parachutes that we had made.Â
Mr Robertson threw the parachutes off and we timed how long it took them to reach the ground. Although it wasn’t a totally fair test due to the wind, the results did support our hypothesis that bigger parachutes created more air resistance and therefore took longer to hit the ground. Thanks to Mr and Mrs Sowden for their help with this experiment!

Last term our topic was schools. We collected objects to represent the different things we learn.
We decided that we could represent the things we collected by drawing a design for a clay tile. Mrs. Thomas came into school to work with the children and we printed our pattern onto a tile. Can you tell which subjects each tile represents? Mrs. Thomas put the clay tiles into a kiln and when they were ready the children got to decorate them using colour glazes. Here are our finished tiles keep an eye out for them appearing on a wall soon!

Year 1 were visted by two scientists Lynne (Mrs Armitage’s daughter) and Scott. We found out lots of new information about plants.

A massive congratulations to Samuel, Ruth and Zac who travelled to York today to compete in the regional megafinals of the British Land UK Chess Challenge. They took part in a demanding day of chess, each playing 6 other opponents.
You all performed brilliantly, representing our school in a very positive way and I was very proud of all of you.
Thanks also to Mums, Dads and Grandads who gave up their Bank Holiday to supprt the children.Â
Well done!!
Year 4 have been investigating water resistance. They had a hypothesis that went like this:
We think that streamlined objects travel faster through water than non-streamlined objects.Â
Next they had to test this theory out. So we made lots of shapes out of plasticine (all the same weight of course!) and timed how quickly they travelled down a large tube filled with water. The results proved their hypothesis! Well done Y4!
Here are the competitors:

To those of us who tried to make their shapes travel as slowly as possible:

Down the tube they went:
