All the children worked so hard today to produce these ads. I think they’re great! What do you think?

Year 4 have been making some jingles for the radio to advertise our smoothies. Here they are!:

We hope you enjoyed them!

Year 4 have been busy designing and making smoothies this week. We are going to make an advertising campaign next week! Here we are in action:

Green Day

Once again, All Saints marked Green Day in style.

First, we each made a promise which is now on a leaf on our promise tree.

Then we enjoyed a range of exciting ‘Green’ activities. Our Year 6 children created eco super heroes, others constructed bird boxes, designed posters, played junk instruments, employed alternative energy, celebrated compost ……

……… I wonder how many of us will still remember our promises in a few months time. I’m going to try to keep mine. Will you?

As part of ‘The Great Plant Hunt’, and along with many other Year 5 children across the UK, we are following the life cycle of  our local daisies. We are collecting the seeds from fruiting daisies and processing it in our seed bank. We intend to send the processed seeds to Kew Gardens where they will be analysed by scientists.

Firstly, we cordoned off a square metre of land to protect the daisies from the mowers!

 Then we began to watch.

 On a daisy hunt!

Look closely and you will see a fruiting daisy hiding amongst the grass.

Nell Bank

Once again, Year 5 had a fantastic day at Nell Bank.

Take a peek at our slideshow to see some of the highlights of the day!

Any parents remember these fantastic toys from the early 80s?! I do. Big Trak was my favourite toy when I was in Year 4.

My Year 4 indulged me today by letting me introduce Big Trak to them. Big Trak is a ‘robot’ that could be programmed to perform simple instructions such as moving forwards, backwards and turning left and right.

We are used to using degrees for controlling our on-screen robot (LOGO) so we had to get used to Big Trak’s use of minutes to control turning. Children quickly worked out that every number on a clock face (5 minutes) represents 30 degrees. Big Trak (although a bit old and tired now!) just about managed to follow the instructions we programmed in.

I enjoyed showing off Big Trak today and I hope Year 4 enjoyed putting their control skills to the test.

Year 4 had fun being 3D detectives today. Children were given a set of characteristics and had to build the 3D shape that they thought was being described.

Year 4 Student Teacher Miss Dear has been helping the children investigate the Hindu Festival of Holi.  Yesterday we made some Indian sweets:

Here is the recipe. Remember, you musn’t try to do any kind of cooking without telling an adult first and this recipe will need an adult to watch and help you!

You will need:

175g evaporated milk

150g dessicated cocnut

100g granulated sugar

Food colouring

To Make:

Heat the milk and sugar over a gentle heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture boils. Simmer until the milk has reduced by half. Stir in half of the coconut and some drops of food colouring. Spread in a greased tray and sprinkle the remaining coconut on top. Cut into squares and eat once cooled! Enjoy!
