On Friday, Year 4 used their imagination to try and discover what it must have felt like for evacuees during World War II.  We had gas masks, name tags, identity cards and luggage at the ready, and off we went to our ‘new’ school in the country!

Once there, we were greeted by the billeting officer and ushered into the school hall. After such a long and tiring journey, the children were keen to be assigned to their new families. Some had to wait longer than others, and some were happier with their new families than others!

Here we are in action:

Leaving our ‘old’ school

Waiting to be chosen

On Monday we’ll be writing some letters home to our real families. Watch this space!

Moving Toys

To kick start our design technology work on moving toys, Year 5 children searched their toy boxes and brought in a wide range of mechanisms.

This dominoes stacker delighted everyone!

But we were also intrigued by the inner workings of mobile snakes, crocodiles, cars and robotic dolls!

Scrap paper and scissors were in much demand this afternoon after children in Year4, Year5 and Year 6 visited Otley Courthouse and were spellbound by Dr Mark’s mathematical tricks.

The topology activities were great fun and we now know how to cut an adult size hole out of a sheet of A4 paper. We might challenge you to some classy maths tricks too – parents watch out!

Strangely all the children wanted a go at this.

Thank you Dr Mark!

It’s good to be back and Year 4 were keen to get straight into things today by sharing our ideas of what’s inside us… We had some very interesting ideas! Over the next few weeks we’re going to be learning just how amazing our bodies are.
