Drama Club

I am really enjoying working with the drama club this year. They are all so full of enthusiasm and talent! Over the last few weeks we have been working on some improvisations around the story of Joseph and his Dream coat. I have given the children a snap shot of a scene and asked them to work in groups of 4 or 5 to create an improvised play. They have had time to rehearse and revise thier performances before sharing it with the rest of the group. Within each group one person has taken on the role of director. It has been facinating to see which children have naturally taken on this role. Mrs Raybould and I have been so impressed with the confidence and the strong use of expression both verbally and non- verbally. Well done drama group it is a pleasure to work with you on a Thursday afternoon.
Here are some photograghs of them in action!

Today was the day for making the pizzas we had so carefully designed. Were they going to be as delicious as the children hoped?
The morning began by groups of children preparing their pizzas.
First we must wash our hands, put our aprons on and then look at our recipes to see what we needed.
Everything was ready.

1. Spread the tomato paste on the pizza base.

2. Chop up the toppings. Very carefully so as not to cut fingers!

3. Put the toppings on the pizza.

4. Sprinkle the cheese on the top.

5. Put the pizza in the oven and cook until it is golden and brown.
6. Finally eat the pizza!

The children thought of lots of words to describe their pizzas.
Yummy, delicious, srumptious, yummy scrummy, tasty, tomatoey.

The Pizza Cafe was also open to the staff. Here are the children waiting on the Lunch Time staff. We hope they all enjoyed their Pizzas?

Last Friday the Reception children tasted the different toppings they had bought at the supermarket. They tasted ham, pepperoni, salami, chicken, olives, cheese, apple, pineapple, potato, onions, pepper, mushroom and tomato. having decided which toppings they liked they designed their own pizza. Apple was a firm favourite which took me by surprise, maybe we are going to start a new trend in sweet pizzas!
The Toppings.

Tasting them!

Symmetry

In Year 5 we have been exploring reflecting shapes and patterns across two lines of symmetry. This is trickier than it appears!

Year 2 have been busy contrasting ideas of hot and cold in poems. Here are just three, but the rest are in a book on display with some of the other work we have been doing.

Year One go Victorian!!!!!

Here are Year One acting as Victorian children in our new Victorian classroom! How fantastic to see them sitting so smartly and sensibly. Miss Evans the teacher looks very prim and proper, I wonder what she is teaching them?

The children had a go at making their own Victorian classroom out of lego.
It looks great with all the desks in a row well done to Tigerlily, Alfie, Anya,
Hannah and Jemma!

Children in the Eco Group have produced a graph that shows that the recent cold snap has resulted in a marked increase in our gas consumption. The blue bar shows the gas consumed in school this year. Until recently we were on target to use less gas than last year.

This information has now been shared with children in assembly so that we can all try even harder to control our energy consumption for the rest of this school year.

Thanks to Nic Shipp from Artforms, budding composers in Year 5 are learning how ICT can help them combine musical elements.

Through using ‘Groovy City’, we can now sort out bass lines, melodies, chords and arpeggios then put them alongside rhythms.

Next week , the children are going to be creating music all by themselves.

As you can see, everyone is giving this project the thumbs up!

Today the Reception class set out of school to do some shopping. The children are going to be making pizzas next week as part of our work about food. They will designing their own pizzas but before they do that they need to taste some different toppings. With our shopping lists in hand we set out on a cold and foggy day to Sainsburys.

We were greeted by Linda Guy. We split into two groups, some went round with Linda and the rest went off with their baskets and shopping lists to do our shopping.

Linda showed us around and told us a little bit about the fruit and vegetables (the produce section of the super market)

We then had a look at the cheese and cooked meats counter. We even got to taste some cheese and chorizo sausage. Yum, delicious! We swopped over so that everybody got a chance to shop and look around the supermarket.

When we had finished our shopping we went to the self check out.

We had to look for the bar code on the packets and swipe them so the computer knew what we had bought.

We paid for our shopping.

We are looking forward to tasting all the differnet toppings tomorrow.
