Our Music Curriculum

At Otley All Saints we believe a high-quality music education should engage and inspire pupils to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.

Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity.  As pupils progress, they should develop a critical engagement with music, through active listening, performance and composition.

Sing Up! forms the basis of our Reception to Year 6 curriculum. It follows the national curriculum objectives and Early Years Development Matters to ensure coverage and progression of skills across each age group. Nursery and the beginning of Reception follow the Tap! Ding! Clap! Sing! resource which helps sharpen the brain’s early encoding of sound, enhances listening and aural memory contributing to the development of their literacy skills

We believe music is more than just a lesson in our curriculum, and are proud of our extra curricular musical activities. We house an amazing choir and orchestra alongside weekly music lessons, providing the opportunity to learn the guitar, drums, woodwind, strings or brass instruments. Singing is a focal point in our daily collective worship, allowing children to experience a range of musical styles alongside the festivals and celebrations throughout the year.
